According to a recent Finnish research, the emergence of 5G technology has increased companies’ interest towards private mobile networks considerably. This is not only because of the substantially higher capacity, but the 5G’s promise of low communications latency. This enables new services like remote control of vehicles, which has raised interest especially among companies related to logistics and manufacturing industry.
Remote control is an example of a critical networked service, which requires high communications QoS. The network connection used for critical services should be uninterrupted at all times while offering low and steady latency. Despite new network technologies, the problem still remains: how to ensure that communications quality stays high enough for the service in all situations?
One of the most important use cases of Kaitotek’s Qosium solution is in particular the monitoring of QoS of these kinds of critical services. The passive measurement of Qosium reveals exactly the QoS the measured online service experiences over the network. Because the measurement is real-time, a deviation in the quality is noticed immediately, enabling quick reaction for correcting actions. Occasionally, a deviation in QoS can be an indication of incipient malfunction of a network device, allowing initiating recovering actions even before the problem escalates. In addition, long-term monitoring makes it possible to locate random-like problems in connectivity, which would be very difficult by other means.
